Learning, exploring and achieving together.

Children start school in Reception (sometimes now called the Foundation Stage). Teachers deliver children's first educational experiences through the Foundation Stage Curriculum. This curriculum is designed to support, foster, promote and develop children learning through:

  • Personal, social and emotional well being
  • Positive attitudes and dispositions towards their learning
  • Social skills
  • Attention skills and persistence
  • Language and communication
  • Reading and writing
  • Maths
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development

Children then move from Reception into Year 1 and then Year 2 this stage is known as Key Stage 1. During these years children are introduced to studying the subjects encompassed by the National Curriculum. Teachers deliver the curriculum through planned lessons that capitalise on stimulating curiosity in learning. Children at Broadway are often taught through exploring topics of particular interest to children, through first hand experience linked to planned school trips that engender interest and sometimes through inviting special visitors into school. Teachers work hard to make learning relevant, interesting and fun! At the end of Key Stage 1 they have completed their time at our school and it is then time for them to move, usually across our site to the Ridge Junior school where they begin their Key Stage 2 studies.
