The history of our school
Broadway Infant School first opened its' doors to children during 1976 and was officially opened on 3rd May 1976. It was built on the same site as the Ridge Junior School which was originally the primary school built to take children from the Ridge housing estate. | The school consisted of six classrooms situated around a main hall. Large windows looked out from the hall onto the shared playing fields. |
In 1999 a new classroom named the Chestnut Room was built at the end of the hall so the large picture window disappeared and became a wall. Next the reception area was altered so that the children had a safely fenced and covered area to play in and over the years the playground space has been extended to provide quiet areas and additional seating. | |
Many past pupils who attended Broadway Infants will remember fondly the huge Chestnut tree that stood just behind the school. Sadly the tree was very old and became diseased and had to be taken down because it became dangerous. Today's children love to climb all over the huge tree stump and large logs that still remain in the playground. Much of the tree was taken away but some was sawn into logs and many families bought pieces of the old tree to place in their gardens as a fond reminder of times and conkers past. |
